HEEEELLOOOO! (Yes, I'm totally pulling a Seinfeld)
It's Friday. I'm happy, despite the gloomy clouds looming over Washington DC the past few days. The kids are all out of school after today. My aunt is getting married tomorrow. Next week is UtopYA. Good things! Good things!
So, let's talk CHARMING, shall we? A very cool person read my upcoming thriller, and he has mentioned writing a screenplay for it. A SCREENPLAY. He was that INTO my book that he thinks it will make a great film! (Not that I had any doubt, right? Haha!) You can read this very cool person's review HERE...obviously another good one!
And, you know, because I do talk CHARMING so often and tease you with it, I've decided to go on the #ReadOn show August 16th and do a LIVE reading from the book! You will not find the first 3-4 chapters ANYWHERE else online. This is an exclusive reading that you don't even have to get out of your jammies for (unless you think that wearing your jammies at 4 pm EST is a little unusual). So mark your calendars, set up reminders, check out the Facebook event group, join it even, and then wait. :-) Waiting is sooooo hard!
Okay, onto other things....like what I've been reading:
First up is Cruel Beauty. This was a ridiculously fast read and quite an interesting take on Beauty and the Beast. Nyx has been promised away to marry Ignifex, the demon lord destroying the land. Her whole life she's been trained to kill him, but when it comes down to it, can she do it? Check it out. Really. I rate it 4 stars.
Next up is City of Heavenly Fire. This is the 6th and final installment in The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare. I was a little let down by this book, not because it lacked action, or great characters, or amazing worldbuilding, but because it felt as though it lacked a real resolution. She's definitely left the book open to expand on her world, and I believe she plans to release a book in 2015 based on one of the newly introduced characters in this series. I'm hoping she includes some of our favorite characters from this series in the new one, maybe when they're a bit older. My only recommendation before reading all six of these is to read her Infernal Devices books first, otherwise the ending in this one won't mean as much to you. All in all, I rated this one 4 stars as well!
And the book I just finished is Timebound. This is the first in a time traveling series. I won't lie: it confuses the heck out of me. I mean, when you can hop around in time and have different lives that you didn't even know about because someone changed something in the past, but not really, but they did....I don't know. I guess my disbelief doesn't want to be suspended. And I'm pretty good about turning off logic while reading. The story surrounds a girl with a dying grandmother who is from the future but trapped in the past, due to a piece of crap man in her life who enjoys power. The girl, Kate, has the time traveling gene and therefore her grandmother wants to use her to right the wrongs of that power-seeking man. There is a boy, and there is a handsome man, and both of them have feelings for Kate, and they are both from different timelines. It's all so very confusing. The beginning of the book I had major issues connecting with the character, but by the end I was rooting for her and confused for her and still having issues understanding time travel. I would recommend this one, and I rated it 3 stars.
I plan to do some editing over the weekend (on someone else's book. Sorry no Shattered Secrets 2 spoilers just yet!), and I plan to start reading SHATTER ME. Best blog I've read all week? By none other than the amazing Maggie Stiefvater: Books Don't Make You Smart!
I hope you all have an amazing weekend!
